About Us

Where can I go dancing?

New dancers ask this all the time, and there has never been a simple answer. Dance events are spread across Facebook posts, email lists and word of mouth. If you aren’t already connected, you miss them.

Local Dance Info gathers social dance events into one place: Ballroom, Latin, swing, line, contra, Scottish country and other partner and group dances. Each listing gives you the date, time, venue, cost and style. It also links to the organizer for full details or tickets. When an event is cancelled or changes venue, the listing changes too.

We’ve started with two regions in New Brunswick: Southeast (including Dieppe, Moncton, and Shediac) and the Capital Region (Fredericton), and in Nova Scotia with the Metro Halifax area (Bedford, Dartmouth, and Halifax). Listings are in English, French and Spanish.

Want to get new dance events in your inbox?

The problem

Over the years, I’ve spent hours searching websites and community groups for a dance to go to, both at home and on vacation. Finding one usually means knowing someone in the community, knowing the right online group, or being on someone’s email list.

When you do find an event, it’s often just a poster or a social media post. Many are missing key details and give you no way to find out more. A post is a good heads-up, but it can’t be kept up to date. If an event is cancelled or moves to a new venue, the original notice doesn’t change.

Meanwhile, new dance students kept telling me there was nowhere to go dancing. I understood why. There was no simple place I could send them.

What didn’t work

I tried building a solution several times with commercial WordPress event calendars. Each one failed when it had to cover many towns across a region like Atlantic Canada. These tools are built for a single organization or municipality, not a dance community spread across several provinces or a country.

What Local Dance Info is today

Local Dance Info is one place to find social dance events. Each listing aims to answer the questions a dancer needs answered before going: when, where, how much, what style and who it’s for. It then links to the organizer for full details or tickets.

The current site is deliberately simple. At this stage, the goal is to confirm that dancers want this information in one place. If the information is good, people will come back, and the platform can grow from there.

What we believe

Social dance builds community. A regular dance brings together people of all ages and backgrounds in the same room, in person.

Everyone is welcome. New or experienced, any age, any partner. Listings will show cost, accessibility, language, experience level and whether children are welcome.

Made and hosted in Canada. Local Dance Info is built and hosted in Canada, and your personal information stays in Canada.

Information in more than one language. I speak only English, but dance communities don’t. I use AI translation so more people can read the listings in French and Spanish. If you spot an error, please tell us. Corrections from the community make the listings better for everyone.
